TE-53 Test and Evaluation of Inductive Loop Detectors
Inductive Loop Tester, ILT III

TE-053 is the test and evaluation of an improved method for testing inductive loop (IL) detectors in place. The testing device is a fully automated, digital, hand-held inductive loop tester. It also incorporate the state-of-the-art advances in digital signal processing and very large scale integrated circuits. Unlike the conventional loop detector testing devices, the ILT III testing device incorporates all diagnosing devices, such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, frequency counter, and Q meter. In addition, ILT III is used in acceptance testing of new ILD systems, validation, and help with preventive maintenance. The ILT III is expected to be a cost effective and convenient method of testing inductive loops.

This project has been developed under the sponsorship of FHWA, Office of Technology Applications, through the Small Business Innovation Research Program. The ILT III device has been developed by the DVP Incorporated. The contract has been recently awarded to DVP, Inc. The testing device will be assembled and ready, with the training materials and manuals, by approximately the middle of October of 1997. The expected delivery time of the 10-devices is October 15, 1997. Eight States will participate in the test and evaluation of the device namely; Michigan, Minnesota, Florida, New Mexico, North Carolina, California, Texas, and Virginia. The devices will be provided to each State, expected delivery time November 6, 1997, and a one day, on-site, training will be provided. The testing and evaluation period will last approximately 6-months.
