AP-66 Traffic Control Systems Handbook
Traffic Control Systems Handbook

The purpose of this project was to update the 1985 edition of the Traffic Control Systems Handbook (FHWA-IP-85-11) and to broaden the handbook to include the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology and concepts. The handbook also provides an updated compendium of existing traffic control technology for the advanced designer and user. The preparation of this handbook includes a review of existing and evolving technologies (equipment and software) that apply to computerized Traffic Control Systems and ITS. This handbook can be used as a basic reference by practicing State and local government engineers to develop and operate Traffic Control Systems; it can also serve as a training aid for experienced traffic engineers.

This work has been completed. It was distributed to State and local agencies in July of 1996. This handbook is currently being put onto a CD, to be available in 1998. Hard copies are available from the Research and Technology Report Center, publication number FHWA-SA-95-032, voice-301-577-0818, fax-301-577-1421.
