DP-71 was initiated in 1985 as a series of workshops designed to introduce bridge engineers and bridge program managers to the basic concepts and early methods of bridge management. It is now a multipronged effort to implement sophisticated BMSs. Bridge engineers, managers, and inspectors are being trained in the application of advanced hardware and software to manage bridge condition data and select high-priority bridge projects.
