FHWA offices around the country are placing strong emphasis
on marketing their technologies and capabilities with their customers, stakeholders, and
partners. To highlight important FHWA activities, compelling technical exhibits and
promotional materials are used at important conferences and meetings year-round. The
display topics available from OTA's Technology Marketing & Communications Team (TMC)
cover projects from every program area in FHWA, with emphasis on technology applications
and research & development. The exhibits (display panels and exhibit structures) are
available on loan to field offices for scheduled outreach events.
The TMC Team had a very busy 1997 with over one hundred exhibition shows completed as part of its exhibiting program. With an inventory of 80+ full-size displays of various FHWA program activities in its warehouse, the team continues to service the exhibition needs of the Office of Technology Applications as well as most all other offices of FHWA, headquarters and field. An example of an important exhibition project for FHWA and the TMC Team is the 77 annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, DC, January 11- 15, 1998, with the TMC Team handling the planning, preparation, and promotion of over 60 technical displays and computer demonstration workstations at this meeting's four day exhibition. Beside handling marketing and promotional activities at conferences and exhibits, TMC Team activities also encompass guidance and support services for FHWA offices developing marketing plans and strategies for new technology products or initiatives. TMC professional staff knows each product is unique, each has different customers, each has different barriers to implementation, and each may require a different or unique marketing strategy.
