UNT History Department doctoral student Brian Elliott will present his research 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. August 12 in Willis Library, Room 250H. Brian is a historian who used The Portal to Texas History as well as other primary source databases to explore Denton's involvement in the Civil War.

Brian's research focuses on Denton history, including its founding, factors that led to its pro-secessionist views, its citizens, and its involvement in the Civil War. He specifically examined the lives of seven Confederate soldiers from Denton, looking at their wartime experiences and their contributions to Denton's development. His analysis will encompass the meaning of his findings in understanding the Civil War's legacy in Denton and the use of digital resources like The Portal to Texas History.
