General Information about the Libraries

The University Libraries' house collections of over 5.5 million cataloged items, in a variety of formats, in six separate facilities. The Willis Library contains a majority of the holdings of the Libraries along with such special areas as Government Documents, the Music Library, the Rare Book and Texana Collections, and the University Archives. The Science and Technology Library, located in the Information Sciences Building, contains the collections in support of the sciences and technologies, library and information sciences, and the curriculum materials collection. The Media Library, with its specialized collections of audio-visual materials, and computer software, is located in Chilton Hall.  The Library Annex houses the Libraries' Technical Services Department and Preservation Unit over 400,000 less-used items from all the collections. The Research Park Library has approximately 40,000 volumes currently located in the Collection Area and 600 reference books.

The University Libraries are administered by a full-time staff of 123, including 47 librarians. The Libraries are under the general supervision of the Dean of Libraries, who is assisted by the University Library Committee, an advisory body appointed by the Faculty Senate. Questions about collections and services in the Libraries may be addressed to any member of the staff; concerns and suggestions about the Libraries should be addressed to the Dean of Libraries, Administrative Offices, Willis Library.
