How to choose a journal database or electronic resource to search for journal articles if you don't already know which one you would need to search.
1. How to Choose a Journal Database or Electronic Resource to Search for Journal Articles:
First, you will need to choose a journal database to search that has journal articles on your topic. The UNT Libraries subscribe to over 300 journal databases or electronic resources. Each of these databases index hundreds to thousands of journals. To find out which databases have journal articles on your topic, go to the Electronic Resources page.
Use either the drop down menu by discipline or subject that reads "Browse Abstract and Index titles by subject", or choose to limit your journal database search to only those that have full-text or other options, by choosing "Browse Abstract and Index titles by category".
*For example, if you want to search for biology journal databases, you will click on "Biological Sciences, Health, & Medicine", then "Biology
". Then you will get a
breakdown of this subject area. Click on "Biological Sciences" or the discipline you need.
Next, you will get a list of 37 databases out of the 300 that are specifically about biology topics. Each database has a description to the right that will help you to decide which of these databases has the information or coverage you need.
These databases will be the best sources for journal articles about biology.
*If you are not searching for a discipline, but a special type of information such as statistics or demographics, then just type the word statistics or demographics in the main "Search For" search box. This will list only those databases that have statistics or demographics, information.
Click on the name of one of the databases to begin searching for journals on your topic.
*If accessing off campus, you will be asked for a username and password. The user name is your EUID and the password is your Eagle Mail password.
