How To Find Books in the UNT Libraries
Users guide to the UNT Library Catalog
UNT LIBRARIES
Books owned by the UNT Libraries can be located using the UNT Library Catalog. When you first enter the catalog you will see two boxes at the top of the screen—the first one has the note “entire collection” beside it and the second has the note “keyword”. The box containing “keyword” is the search argument—the variable by which you are searching.
Click the drop down beside the box containing “keyword” to see the other search arguments. You can search by author, title, keyword, subject, journal title or call number.
If you want to restrict your search to a particular collection, click the drop down beside the box containing the words “entire collection.”
Use a keyword search if you are unsure about how to express your search. A keyword search searches the entire record and produces many more results than a subject search which only searches the subject headings assigned to a book.
For example a keyword search of “marketing” produces 7594 results while a subject search of “marketing” yields 617 results.
If you do a keyword search and get many results such as the example above, you can click on related searches to focus your search with the suggestions provided by this link.
Click on the Modify Search button to further limit your search or change the sort order of your search results. (Default sort order is by date with most recent first.)
Under the section “Other Search Options” search examples illustrate the guided search and search by collection features.
