- Council of
Europe
(European Commission)
- Intergovernmental
organization which aims to protect human rights, pluralist democracy
and the rule of law; to promote awareness and encourage the development
of Europe’s cultural identity and diversity; to seek solutions to
problems facing European society (discrimination against minorities,
xenophobia, intolerance, environmental protection, human cloning, AIDS,
drugs, organized crime, etc.); and to help consolidate democratic
stability in Europe by backing political, legislative and
constitutional reform.
- EUROPA—The European Union Online
(European Commission)
- The
portal site of the European Union. This site provides up-to-date
coverage of European Union affairs and essential information on
European integration. Users can also consult all legislation currently
in force or under discussion, access the Web sites of each of the EU
institutions, and find out about the policies administered by the
European Union under the powers devolved to it by the treaties.
- International
Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
- This independent, non-governmental
organization acts to help all victims of war and internal violence,
attempting to ensure implementation of humanitarian rules restricting
armed violence.
- The
International Court of Justice (ICJ)
- Description of the World Court (the
principal judicial organ of the U.N.), along with official judgments,
advisory opinions, and orders that are received directly from the
International Court of Justice.
- International
Monetary Fund (IMF)
- Cooperative institution that 181
countries have voluntarily joined in order to maintain a stable system
of buying and selling their currencies so that payments in foreign
money can take place between countries smoothly and without delay.
- International
Organization for Standardization (ISO)
- Worldwide, non-governmental federation
of national standards bodies from some 100 countries, one from each
country.
- North
Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
- An alliance for collective defense that
links 16 independent nations in a voluntary security system in which
roles, risks and responsibilities are shared.
- Organization
of American States (OAS)
- The world's oldest regional
organization. The OAS is the principal forum in the hemisphere for
dialogue on political, economic, and social issues. Every country in
the Americas is a member of the Organization.
- Official

(UN)
- Portal to Web sites of the United
Nations, its funds and programs, and specialized agencies. Also
includes links to key projects and initiatives and to various joint
programs of the UN system.
- World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
- U.N. organization responsible for
promoting protection of intellectual property throughout the world
through cooperation among states, and for administration of various
multilateral treaties dealing with the legal and administrative
aspects of intellectual property.
- World
Trade Organization (WTO)
- Organization that is the legal and
institutional foundation of the multilateral trading system and the
successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
