After you have completed your use of the materials, they will be returned to remote storage. If you have any questions about this service, please call the Head, Access and Preservation Services, at (940) 565-2415.
Technical Services
Technical Services' responsibilities include: acquiring (ordering, receiving and paying for) library materials in all formats, spending and accounting for the Libraries' materials budget (FY 04/05 $6.5M), maintaining the New Acquisitions List, and cataloging new acquisitions.
The Department has a full time staff of 21 people (four librarians, fifteen library specialists, an accountant, and a secretary) plus student assistants. It is comprised of four units: Accounting; Cataloging; Monograph Acquisitions; and Serials and Receiving.
Preservation Unit
The Preservation Unit supports the University's academic programs and research by making library materials available and accessible to library patrons. The Preservation Unit binds and prepares materials in a timely manner so that current research is immediately available to students and faculty.
Members of the Preservation staff repair well-worn or damaged items so that they can be returned quickly to circulation. As a research institution, UNT is obligated to retain older materials; the Preservation Unit preserves and protects these items while continuing to make them available to library patrons. In addition, the Preservation Unit works with the University Archives, the Government Documents Department, and other library departments to care for fragile holdings.
The Preservation Unit binds and repairs only materials that belong to UNT. Individuals needing book repair or thesis binding should view the FAQ's on the Unit's web site for links to outside vendors. Please visit the Unit's website for more information.
