Index (PDF file)Introduction
The Miniature Book Exhibition is an annual competition sponsored by the Miniature Book Society. The competition was inaugurated in 1988 to honor excellence in miniature book production. The Miniature Book Society publishes exhibition catalogs to document the books entered in the competitions. Each exhibition catalog contains detailed entries with the full title of each book, as well as the names of the individuals and the press responsible for its creation.
This index is intended to serve as a finding aid for the entire run of exhibition catalogs. All book titles and proper names from the exhibition catalogs are included in this index. The names of the miniature book competition judges are also included in the index, as well as the names of individuals who have participated in creating the exhibition catalogs.
In this index, words or phrases in italic type refer to titles of books. Bold font is used to indicate the titles of the books that have won the Distinguished Book Award. Reference locators appear in the form of “year of catalog, page.” For example, the entry “Old-time printer, 1989 p. 50–51” refers to a description of a book that appears in the 1989 catalog on pages 50-51. The bold font in the citation indicates that this book won a Distinguished Book Award. Besides being indexed under title, this work is also indexed under “Brady, Donald E.,” “Harrigan, Francis X.,” “Twain, Mark,” and “Xavier Press” because all of those proper names appeared in its catalog description. Furthermore, the book is indexed under “Distinguished Book Awards—1989 competition” because it won an award.
A page number is given in brackets if the page number did not appear on the page cited. The 1996 catalog did not include any page numbers, so this indexer assigned each page a number, beginning with page [1] for the title page.
Page numbers for the 1994 catalog were taken from a four-page supplement issued with the January 1995 issue of the Miniature Book Society Newsletter. This indexer was unable to ascertain the existence of a separately published catalog for that year’s exhibition.
