_Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios_ is organized by industry code (NAICS code or SIC code). Make sure you have the correct industry code number before using the book. It provides benchmark annual financial performance ratios per industry code, and gives additional breakdowns by asset size (large, medium, and small-size firms). It includes private companies. D&B covers one year at a time. It contains information from over 1 million financial statements from public and private U.S. corporations, partnerships, and proprietorships, in all size ranges, including over 800 different lines of business. Use this book to compare a company's performance against its industry/competitors or to see trends in industry performance over time. It is updated annually. It provides solvency, efficiency, and profitability ratios.

This source is organized by NAICS codes. Volume 1 covers manufacturing by NAICS Codes 311111 - 327999.  Volume 2 covers manufacturing by NAICS  codes 331111 - 337920.  Volume 3 covers manufacturing by NAICS codes 339111 - 339999 and wholesale & retail by NAICS codes 421110 - 454390.  The three volumes provide detailed information on over 856 distinct industries including 19 year data series prior to the year 2000. It includes pre-calculated ratios for 20 important industrial measurements. It provides general statistics, indices of change, selected ratios, leading companies, cost details, product details, and industry data by state.

This is a directory of the top 160,000 U.S. companies with sales greater than $9,000,000. The directory lists companies alphabetically, by SIC code, and geographically. Information provided for each firm lists officers, business, SIC code, sales, number of employees, stock ticker symbol, and accounting firms.

NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) manual  HF1042.N67
This U.S.-designated 6 digit code replaces the older SIC code. It is the result of a joint effort by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to classify industries so that statistics produced in the three countries will be comparable.  Eventually the SIC codes will no longer be used, but right now the directories of companies and industries that you are using have both. The NAICS manual provides a listing of NAICS codes with explanations.  It also provides an alphabetical list of industries next to their NAICS codes.   Much of this information is also available on the NAICS web site,

_RMA Annual Statement Studies_ is organized by industry code (NAICS code or SIC code). Make sure you have the correct industry code number before using the book. The book provides benchmark industry ratios for large, medium, and small-size firms. The Library has the paper edition, not the electronic edition. The book includes private companies. RMA provides ratios for the current year but it also covers several prior years for comparison purposes. The book provides ratios for over 370 industry groups collected from annual financial statements of firms. Data is presented in columns by size of firm in terms of total assets and other columns in terms of total sales. Financial statements for each industry code are shown in "common size" and are accompanied by 19 widely used financial ratios. The common-size balance sheet and income statement line items are arrayed by asset size and by sales size. Six different asset and sales size categories are presented. Columns of comparative historical data (the "all companies" category) are included. Some of the industries include manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing, service, and contracting businesses.
