Research Park Library: Services and Facilities

Computer Services & Productivity Tools

The Research Park Library has 46 3.2 GHz Public workstations for patron use. There is also one workstation with a scanner allowing patrons to save scanned files to floppy or USB Flash drive or to email scanned files to yourself (flash drives are not supplied by the library). Additionally, all of the workstations have MAGic accessibility software installed for seeing and hearing impaired patrons.

Effective summer 07 the Microsoft 2007 productivity tools are available to students, faculty, and staff (anyone with a valid UNT EUID) on the public workstations within the library. You will be able to edit and save your documents to a floppy disk, flash drive, the desktop, or your Student Storage (go to http://untss.unt.edu/ and enter your EUID and password).

For printing, copying and scanning information, see our FAQ.

General Library Services

Many of our materials are available electronically and can be accessed from anywhere at the Research Park, the main campus, or from your home or office via the Library Catalog.  For tips on using electronic resources from off campus, see the Library Services for Off-Campus Users page.

There are two locations for print materials at the Research Park Library. Room B112 holds current print subscriptions of over 150 journals, Research Park Reference and Student Study Collections. The Research Park Library Book Collection in room M130 has books and bound journals for engineering, computer science and materials sciences.  Reserve materials for courses at Research Park are also kept in room M130.

  • For UNT Libraries owned materials, the Circulation Department will deliver books, articles, movies, LPs, slides, and other library materials using the Distance Learning Request Form.
  • Materials that are not owned by UNT can be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) using the ILLiad System.  Articles will be sent from ILLiad directly to your email account, or faxed to the UNT Library location of your choice to be picked up.

Reference Services

The main library desk in room B112 is staffed by librarians or library staff who can help with your reference needs.

  • Individual sessions with one of the librarians, providing in-depth reference assistance or training on specific electronic resources, can be scheduled at your convenience.
  • Faculty can request library instruction sessions for their classes by contacting a librarian.
  • Please allow two weeks notice so we can prepare specific materials to support your course and assignments.

Have you used RefWorks?  UNT Libraries is now licensed with RefWorks, an online research management, writing and collaboration tool that is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.

Food & Beverages

The Library encourages you to use the benches and tables found throughout the Research Park campus for enjoying meals and study breaks. Vending areas are located in various areas throughout the Research Park facilities. Please dispose of trash in containers located outside the library.

  • Food and beverages are prohibited in B135, the Library Instruction & Computer Classroom.
  • Beverages in covered, spill-proof containers are permitted in the main study areas of the library.
  • Acceptable food items for consumption within the library are those that will not disturb other users or leave crumbs or sticky residues. Examples of acceptable foods are vending machine type candy, chips, snacks, or similar items. Unacceptable food items include fast food, sack lunches, complete meals, glazed donuts, aromatic food, or similar items.
  • If a spill should occur, please notify a library staff member immediately. We want to keep the library as new as possible for as long as possible.

Cell Phone

Please use your cell phone outside the library. There is a telephone for public use near the main entrance to the Research Park.  Emergency phones are available near the parking lots.

Quiet Areas

The Learning Center, B135, is designated a "quiet area" and is reserved for individual study unless the room is scheduled for library instruction. Quiet conversations are appropriate for the main areas of the library including the Internet tables, the casual seating near the main door, and the reference desk area.

Group Study

Three study areas, located to the left of the current journals, are designated for group work/projects. Each area is equipped with a computer, dry-erase whiteboard and a table and chairs for 7 people. Group work is often noisy work; these study areas are located away from other library users, but we still appreciate your efforts to limit disruptions.
