Please note that most entrepreneurial firms are not public companies. However, you may want to find a public company involved in this industry and look at that company's financial statements. Note that the financial statements of a large public company will give the consolidated operating results rather than industry-specific results.

Business & Company Resource Center (Business and Company Resource Center) provides company and industry information for over 300,000 companies. Includes company profiles, industry rankings, marketing information, products, brands, investment ratings, financial ratios, financial statements, market size, industries by SIC, directory information, and more. Search by company name, industry, topic, or geography.

Business Research Databases

Hoover's Online

Hoover's Online provides proprietary information on about 18,500 companies, 180,000 officers, and 600 industries in an easy-to-read format. The database also furnishes access to additional information on nearly 13 million companies from leading providers such as Dun & Bradstreet. Create targeted contact lists, custom company reports, and find small business locations. Import data into spreadsheets, CRMs, and other software. Another feature includes customizable news alerts and news coverage from top wire services.

NetAdvantage - Standard and Poor's

Standard and Poor's NetAdvantage is a comprehensive source of business and investment information, offering on-line access to Standard & Poor's research products such as Industry Surveys, Stock Reports, Corporation Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, The Outlook, and Mutual Fund Reports. NetAdvantage provides searching and screening tools to facilitate academic research, job searches, case studies, competitive intelligence, strategic planning, due diligence and M&A activities. Included is private company information on over 85,000 companies that are not publicly traded. NAICS code searching is available to identify potential customers, vendors, and strategic partners. The database includes biographies of thousands of corporate executives and directors. Export tools allow researchers to download data into spreadsheet programs.

This site provides financial ratios of industries in addition to market news and company and industry figures. To find industry ratios, you must enter the stock symbol of a public company. You will then go to a summary page about that company. If you then select "Ratios" (on the left side), you will get comparisons of some of the company's financial performance ratios against the industry.

SEC EDGAR Database

SEC EDGAR provides searchable US Securities and Exchange filings for public companies.  The SEC enforces the statutory requirement that public companies submit quarterly and annual reports, as well as other periodic reports. The SEC maintains an online database called EDGAR (the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system) online from which investors can access this and other information filed with the agency. 

Thomson One Banker (Thomson Analytics)

Thomson One Banker conducts powerful searches against data from multiple databases and displays detailed reports and charts. Search across multiple databases for immediate access to news, quotes, earnings estimates, key financials, ratios, and growth rates for over 65,000 active and inactive global companies. The data is drawn from IBES, Worldscope, SDC, other Thomson databases, and Edgar filings. Save search criteria and results for quick reference. Analyze the performance of companies individually or in the context of peers and industry averages. Obtain more than 200 pre-formatted presentation-ready reports and charts containing financials, earnings ratios, and stock data. View and update graphs and reports as you work, and create custom price charts. You can download (export) fixed fields into Excel, or use the Excel Add-In to pull data from "live"" Thomson Analytics databases directly into your Excel spreadsheets.

LexisNexis Academic

Includes News, Business, and Legal Research sections. Business information includes financial statements, accounting, taxation, industries, international business, information systems. Legal Research includes law reviews, case law, codes, and statutes for all U.S. courts and all 50 states. Start here when looking for Supreme Court decisions and Texas Cases.

How to do a Disclosure Search via LexisNexis Academic

Disclosure reports are available through LexisNexis, located on the UNT Libraries' Electronic Resources menu.

Once in LexisNexis Academic click on the BUSINESS tab to find company reports.   Then type in the company's name or ticker.  Then click SEARCH.  Once you pull up the company's "SNAPSHOT," click FINANCIAL INFORMATION on the side menu.

Only public parent companies will have financial reports in this section of LexisNexis Academic.
