RHAB 4475: Assessment of Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency

Library resources for AODA instrument assignment (Dr. Sneed, Fall 2011):

Testing guide: http://www.library.unt.edu/research-tools/guides/testing-assessment/articles/electronic-resources

Strategy 1: Use MMY or HaPI (best option)

This is the test information option which is preferred so do try it but there are access issues.

MMY database is limited to 4 users at a time.

HaPI is limited to 10 users at a time.

Strategy 2: Locating a Test Online (if you can't get into MMY)

Believe it or not, using a search engine (like Google.com) might pull up the full survey online. This is not recommended for analysis (use databases like the ones below). Not all tests are online (see strategy 1) & do evaluate the source.

  1. Use Dr. Sneed's  AODAinstruments list to find a proper test name.
  2. Do a search ( quotes help" , ex.  "World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL; WHOQOL-BREF)"
  3. See results: WHOQOL page. Look for blank copy or analyze copy without results. You are critiquing the tes

Strategy 3: Books at UNT libraries with assessment info (on Testing guide)

EBSCO Databases for articles, and some tools:

Academic Search Complete , Education Research Complete, ERIC, Health and Psychosocial Instruments: HaPI, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, MasterFILE Premier, MEDLINE, Mental Measurements Yearbook (LIMITED TO 4 USERS AT A TIME), Professional Development Collection, PsycARTICLES,  PsycINFO (image below), and SocINDEX with Full Text via EBSCO.

How to access databases:

  • From the A-Z list click on the letter of the database you want (Letter A for Academic Search Complete)
  • Off campus? Enter your EUID and Password
  • One search tip: Search AODA instrument by placing the full title in quotes (ex. "Addiction Potential Scale")

NOTE: To search multiple EBSCO databases together click"Choose databases" above search box

    • This is recommended for this assignment. Some tools will have far fewer articles than others.
    • Optional: Limit to full text and scholarly (peer reviewed) journals to reduce results.

Search example:

EbscohostAODAtool

PsycINFO TM advanced search: Another option

  • Click on advanced search, and in the search box type in the AODA tool in "TS (test and measures).
