PSCI 1040: American Government

This class page is for Dr. Kimi King's Next Gen sections of Political Science 1040 (American Government); however, it has basic research steps that are useful for any research you do. If you find you need more help, use the Ask Us services. Library reference staff members can be reached in person and through phone and email. Your text books are located at the Circulation and Reserve Desk in Willis Library on two hour reserve (you will need your UNT ID card).

Finding Course Reserves

  • From the UNT Libraries Home Page, select the link Find Course Reserves on the left side of the page.
  • The default search is Course Number, type your course into the text box: PSCI 1040, click Submit, then select King, Kimi.
  • Take the call number and your UNT ID card to the Willis Library Circulation and Reserve Desk to request the book.

 NOTE: You may now check out laptops at the Willis Library first floor information desk!

Required Newspaper

The New York Times in print is available at the Circulation and Reserve Desk in Willis Library (however, there is a three to five day delay) today's NYT can be accessed through the UNT Libraries Electronic Resources.

Accessing the New York Times through the UNT Libraries Catalog

  • From the Library home page search New York Times in the text box on the top right hand side of the page, select Journal Title from the drop down menu, then click Search

  • From the results page you will select the first link highlighted in yellow below

  • This will take you to the page that shows our print and online holdings for the New York times, you will select the holding that says UNT ONLINE RESOURCES which is the link highlighted in yellow below

  • Select the link highlighted in yellow below that states Full text available from LexisNexis Academic: 06/01/1980 to present

 Viewing the New York Times in LexisNexis

  • At this point, if you are off campus, you will be prompted to enter your EUID and Password (if you need to look up your EUID or reset your Password, you can do this through UNT's Account Management System)
  • You will be routed to the LexisNexis Power Search Page
  • From the Power Search Page you will need to use the Specify Date drop down menu to select "Today" (highlighted in yellow below) or the specific date you need (such as: "Date is..." or "Previous week"). You will see that The New York Times is already selected for you as the source. At this point you can click the red Search button (circled in blue) to the right hand side of the page to view the articles from the date you selected or you can enter a specific article title in the Search Terms box.

  • You can also download the New York Times app to your Andriod or iPhone to browse the news anytime!

General Library Information

UNT Libraries Locations

UNT has several libraries. Most Political Science materials can be found on the third floor of Willis Library, which is the large library located across from the Eagle Student Services Center and the Administrative Building (the clock tower). You can find a map of library locations here:

Willis Library General Info

  • The public printer is on the first floor in the Image Depot, it is 10 cents per page to print (You may print for free with your student ID in the Willis 24 Hour Lab; however they do have a limit on how much you can print.)
  • Photocopy machines and scanners are also located on the first floor in the Image Depot.
  • Public computers are available on every floor.
  • Restrooms and water fountains are located in the corner stairwells of every floor.

The UNT Libraries will be closed Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28 for the Memorial Day weekend. The Libraries will reopen during regular building hours on Tuesday, May 29.
