UNT Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery

INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROCEDURES
Pamela Johnston, Interlibrary Loan Librarian
(PJOHNSTO@library.unt.edu

All students enrolled in HIST 5230 are eligible for Interlibrary Loan services. If you do not already have an Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) account, go to http://www.library.unt.edu/ill/default.htm. After you have registered for an account, you may begin entering requests. Please keep in mind the following guidelines:

1. Place your request as far in advance as possible. Some materials can be difficult to locate. If an item must be borrowed from an out-of-state lender, it can take 3 weeks to arrive. This is often the case with dissertations, newspapers (microfilm reels), or other microforms.

2. Materials in Archives or Special Collections may not be available through Interlibrary Loan. If we are unable to obtain the items you need, we will notify you.

3. Provide complete citations. When possible, please provide the ISBN, ISSN, or OCLC number. It can be helpful if you provide where you learned about the item. For example, if you need an oral history transcript from the LBJ Library, you might provide the URL where you located the item. The ILL request forms include a notes field where you can enter additional information. The notes field accepts a limited number of characters; lengthy comments should be emailed to ill@library.unt.edu and include the transaction number.

4. Loan periods vary among lending libraries, but two weeks is typical. Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library and should be requested before the due date.

5. Some items we obtain may be designated “Building Use Only”. This can be related to the format, condition, or rarity of an item.

6. We are usually able to provide items at no cost to you. However, please indicate a “max cost” you are willing to pay. If an item exceeds the maximum cost, we will notify you before ordering. If the max cost field is left blank, then we assume the amount you are willing to pay is zero.
