Finding Articles in EBSCOHost Databases
EBSCOHOST DATABASES
A package of databases including Academic Search Premier, Agricola, Environment Index, Public Administration Abstracts, Social Sciences Abstracts and more. The databases can be searched individually or in groups.
a) Finding the database package and establishing My EBSCOHost.
• Go to ELECTRONIC RESOURCES at http://irservices.library.unt.edu/.
• Select “E” at the top of the page, then scroll down to the database on the next screen.
• Select the SIGN IN link at the top of the screen, and then select I’M A NEW USER at the left of the next screen.
• Complete and submit the registration form. You now have a My EBSCOHost account.
b) Constructing and refining your search
• Return to ADVANCED SEARCH and enter keywords from your topic as a Boolean search with field set to ANYWHERE initially. Use the truncation symbol (*) to search for different endings on the same root word.
• Don’t limit to full text because you may miss articles that the Libraries actually have!
• Look at the article’s abstract (summary) to see if the article is relevant.
• Look at the article’s subject terms to find more terms to refine your search. You can narrow your search by selecting one of the most common subject terms listed at the left.
• When you find a relevant article, add it to the FOLDER by clicking on the ADD icon to the right of the article’s title.

c) Preparing the Folder contents for output
• To retrieve the records, click on FOLDER HAS ITEMS at top right of results.
• Check the records you want to keep, then pick an output option – email, save, print or export to a bibliographic manager.
• Select the record format and citation format you want, and submit. You will receive a list of the article citations and the full-text article if there was one attached.
d) Finding the full text articles
• Beneath the article’s title, you will find one or more of these links: FIND FULL TEXT, LINKED FULL TEXT, PDF FULL TEXT or HTML FULL TEXT.
• PDF FULL TEXT will take you directly to the full text article in Adobe Reader. Use the Save and Print icons within Adobe Reader, but use the Email option from the database.
• HTML FULL TEXT will take you directly to the article. Use the EBSCOHost save, e-mail or print options.
• LINKED FULL TEXT takes you to the full text article in a different database or journal package. Use the new database’s output option, unless the file is a PDF, and then use the Adobe Reader Save and Print icons.
• FIND FULL TEXT may take you to the article in another database, but sometimes you get the message that the Libraries don’t have the journal. If this happens, do a JOURNAL TITLE search in the UNT LIBRARY CATALOG to confirm whether we have the electronic and/or print journal.

• You can edit search alerts from your FOLDER.
