Finding Books at Other Libraries
If UNT doesn't have a book you need, then you'll have to search for the item in the database, WorldCat at http://irservices.library.unt.edu/resource.cfm?ai_id=157, which is a catalog composed of records from libraries from all over the world. It can show you which libraries in Texas or the United States have the item you want.
Follow these steps to find out which libraries carry the book you want:
- Type the title of your book in the first search box and select Title from the field drop-down menu to the right of the box
- Add in author (last name first) in the next search box, if known
- Click on the Search button at the top left
- Find your book's title in the list. Below the title and author, find Libraries Worldwide and look at the number to the right. That's how many libraries in the world own the book. Click on Libraries Worldwide.
- You'll get a list of all the libraries that have the book, with Texas libraries listed first
Finding Theses and Dissertations from Other Universities
You can find abstracts, and sometimes 24-page previews, for theses and dissertations from all over the world in the database, Digital Dissertations at http://irservices.library.unt.edu/resource.cfm?ai_id=159.
Follow these steps to find dissertations by UNT faculty:
- In the top search box, enter a faculty member's name - [last name, first name]. Select Author from the drop-down menu to the right of the box.

- Look down the list of results for faculty member's Ph.D. dissertation. If it's not there, revise your search by entering the name like this - [last name, first initial*]. This search will look for all variations on the first name.
- When you find the title, look below it and select the Abstract link.
- Now you can print the abstract or email it to yourself.
