Finding Articles
Here are links to electronic index databases that will help you find articles about your topic. If you are accessing these databases from off-campus, you will need to enter your EUID and password to use these resources. Help on accessing the UNT databases remotely is available at Tips and Tricks for Using UNT Electronic Databases.
Academic Search Complete * is a good general database with full text access to around 4600 journals and indexing for 8000 journals. It contains many scholarly publications.
MasterFILE Complete * contains information on a broad range of subjects from popular magazines and periodicals. It has searchable full text for nearly 1,860 journals, including Consumer Reports and Business Week. While this index doesn't cover many scholarly journals, it does give insight into the general opinions of the population.
Proquest's Research Library * is another good general database. It has full text access to numerous journals also, including many scholarly journals.
CQ Researcher (Congressional Quarterly Researcher) contains reports on many social problems of the United States. There is a history of the situation and pros and cons on the issues.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center * gives opposite points of view on many subjects. You can do a search or you can scan the list of topics. If you do a search, you can enter your topic and limit the search to statistics only, or look at the articles and the link suggestions from the list that will appear on the right after you run the search. If want to look at the topics, scan the list for subjects like these: endangered species, global warming, environmentalism, pollution, oceans, and renewable energy.
Environmental Issues and Policy Index * leads you to articles on the environment and on government policy. They may be fairly technical but could give great information.
EarthTrends Environmental Information * is a comprehensive online database, maintained by the World Resources Institute, that focuses on the environmental, social, and economic trends that shape our world.
* If these links do not work, go to the Library's home page, click on Electronic Resources (on the left), and use the top alphabetical index to click on the letter of the first word of the title of the database and scroll down to the one you want.
