Art Iconography and Symbolism Books

How to Find Books on Art Iconography and Symbolism

*After you have identified the basic iconography and symbols in your painting from the list of General Art Iconography Sources, and then either the Christian Art Iconography or Greek and Roman Art Iconography source sections, you will want to search for books written on the theme or topic.
*For example, if you find that your painting depicts the theme of the Annunciation of the Virgin, you will want to search  Annunciation or Annunciation AND Virgin, or Annunciation AND Mary, or Annunciation AND Angel or Gabriel, for books that go into detail on this particular theme.

*To find books owned by UNT search the UNT Libraries Online Catalog
*Search names by last name, first name. Example:  Magdalene, Mary, Catherine, Saint.

*Examples of keyword searches: Iconography and Art, Iconography and Greek, Iconography and Christian, Themes and Art and Christian, Symbolism and Christian, "sacra conversazione" or "sacred conversation".
