Love and Desire

Betsy Berger
2003.  Cloth, paper, wood, leather, commercially produced items, printed text.

Assemblage created as a reliquary in the style of medieval works.  The "reliquary" of white goatskin, linen, and Japanese Kozo, rests on four "feet" which are pink leather-covered nipples.  The lower compartment of the reliquary contains the "sacred text", a commercially produced volume entitled Love and Desire, which has been rebound in quarter-sewn oak and alum-tawed pigskin using a Carolingian style method.  The upper section of the "reliquary" houses the "relic," a pink leather-covered commercially produced phallus.

Gift of the Artist to the Rare Book & Texana Collections.
