Evaluation

The restoration is finally complete. The book can open with a healthy fan of pages as the spine is not ripped in chunks. Although there is something inherently nostalgic about 18th century book crumbs (well, crumbs of any time period), they are far from raining from this volume anymore. As this was my first restoration, I am proud of the result. I realize that there is a vast amount of learning that I still have to gain, but I am thankful for this experience. I was touched to be so close to the people of the 18th century that originally formed this leather bound container of knowledge, including the papermakers, compositors, pressers, binders, author, and others. It is a remarkable quest to help people of today to access this volume electronically and in person, but it is even more rewarding to preserve volume not only for the people of the past who worked so hard on it in the first place, but also for the people of the future.
