The Hiram Friedsam Memorial Purchase Fund

Hiram J. Friedsam, long-time supporter of the Friends of the UNT Libraries was also the founding Dean of the School of Community Service, now known as the College of Public Affairs and Community Service.  He also founded the Center of Studies in Aging (now the Department of Applied Gerontology).

Hiram joined NT in 1948, and retired in 1983.  He continued to be active in the NT community, serving on various committees such as the Board of the Friends of the Libraries.  In 1995 he was interviewed for an oral history on desegregation at NT.

Hiram passed away in March 2007, at the age of 87.  In his memory, funds were collected to acquire an appropriate item for the Rare Book & Texana Collections.

In April 2008, sufficient funds had been received to purchase an artists' book, reflecting Hiram's interest in art and artists' books.

We would like to thank the donors to the fund, and to express our deep appreciation for Hiram and all that he did for UNT and for the Rare Book & Texana Collections.
