| Collection of 48 miniature volumes. This second donation by Msgr. Weber consists of 48 titles, and includes a number of works by Msgr. Weber himself, and many works published by his presses. It is particularly strong in California publishers, and includes works on history, literature, art, and religion. There are also items in other languages, including Spanish and Hebrew. One volume is a “leaf book”, and contains an original page from an earlier book printed on birch bark. Msgr. Weber is Archivist of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Historical Apostolate Archival Center, located at the San Fernando Mission. He is a prolific author/publisher, and also an important collector of miniature books. Much of his collection has been donated to the Huntington Library, and so his choosing to donate these volumes to UNT is a particular honor. We are grateful to Msgr. Weber for his continued generosity. |

A complete collection of titles published by Achille J. St. Onge Worcester, Mass.: A. J. St. Onge, Msgr. Francis J. Weber of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has presented the Rare Book Room with an important collection of miniature books. The 52 volumes represent a complete set of titles published by Achille J. St. Onge plus two associated volumes. St. Onge is considered one of the most important miniature book publishers of the 20th century, and his work is highly desired. A complete set is a major achievement, and very difficult to obtain. One of his books, The Inaugural Address of Thomas Jefferson, was printed in an edition of 200. The binding, however, did not turn out correctly, and he burned all but 30 copies. The set presented to us by Msgr. Weber includes this elusive title, making UNT one of only a few institutions in the world with a complete set. Our deepest thanks to Msgr. Weber for this important and generous gift! |
