Ethan Allen Hitchcock's Christ the Spirit: A finding aid and an aid to identification.

 

This list is an aid to distinguishing the various volumes that form part of the materials relating to the book Christ the Spirit, by Ethan Allen Hitchcock.

For the sake of clarity, the full title of the work: Christ the Spirit: being an attempt to state the primitive view of Christianity, has been abbreviated to Christ the Spirit.

These items were part of a donation by Children To Children, Inc., of materials formerly in the possession of Jeane Dixon.

     Bound in publisher's embossed and textured brown cloth with gilt spine titles.

     Tipped-in clippings; manuscript corrections; tipped-in sheets with corrections and notations.

Item 2:

     Christ the Spirit.  Part Second.
     New York: James Miller, 1861.

     Bound in later yellow cloth with black spine titles.

     Manuscript corrections and notes; tipped-in sheets of manuscript corrections and additions;

Item 3:

     Christ the Spirit.  Part Second.
     New York: James Miller, 1861.

     Bound in later yellow cloth with black spine titles.

     Tipped-in sheet with manuscript notes; various sections with printed corrections glued in to text reflecting changes made in Item 2.

Item 4:

     Christ the Spirit.  Second Edition, Enlarged.
     New York: For sale by C.S. Francis & Co., New York; Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Co., Boston; John Penington & Son Philadelphia, 1861.

     Bound in publisher's embossed and textured dark brown/black cloth with gilt spine titles.

     Tipped-in clipping inside front cover; 1(?) manuscript correction.

     New York: For sale by C.S. Francis & Co., New York; Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Co., Boston; John Penington & Son Philadelphia, 1861.

     "Clean" copy, no noticed corrections.  Does not reflect correction made in Item 4.
