This fall The Factory will host numerous training workshops at Willis Library and Discovery Park to help you get familiar with the great tools available for use. The schedule for workshops in October and November are below.

Event Information

Getting to Know Raspberry Pi - Join our knowledge specialist for an overview of Raspberry Pi. In this session, there will be an introduction to microcontrollers, the OS for Raspi and some basic work using a Pi.

Tool Safety Green Level Training - Join our knowledgeable specialists to learn about the tools the Factory offers as well as get safety certified. Being certified to use the tools allows for you to be able to check out the tools you need to complete your project.

Getting to Know TinkerCAD - Join The Factory knowledge specialist to learn, explore and share knowledge about 3D modeling using TinkerCAD. TinkerCAD is a free online 3D modeling software to help individuals of all levels of experience begin learning to design in 3D.

Social Making - Join our knowledge specialist to explore the world of oolong teas (October) & Black Teas (November). You'll learn how to brew both and their history

Getting to Know the Othermill - Join a Factory Knowledge Specialist to learn, and explore the Othermill, a desktop 3-axis CNC milling machine.

3D Scanning - Learn about the resources available for 3D scanning in The Factory. In this  session, you will learn how to get a scan using the portable Structure and the Ein-Scan Pro

Getting to Know the Janome - Join our knowledge specialist for an overview to Janome MemoryCraft 6500 and its accessories. In this session, there will be introduced to the feet, stitches, and resources available for sewing in The Factory.

Monthly Portrait Session - Photographer will be on site to take high-quality UNT photos for Students/Community Members. Images can be edited with a photography knowledge specialist at a future appointment if desired.  Photo backdrops available would include the UNT Union, Scrappy Statue, and the Soaring Eagle statue.

Unity: Custom Virtual Reality Space - Learn how to use various tools within the Unity development engine, create and sculpt fascinating 2D, 3D, and virtual reality environments and build a personal VR space that you can come back and visit.

SVG File Creation for Laser Cutting: Join our knowledge specialists to discuss, exchange ideas, and learn. The Factory knowledge specialist will provide an overview of adobe illustrator and other tools to create .svg files for use with other Factory Resources. 

Getting to Know DSLR Cameras: Join our knowledge specialists to learn the plethora of features for a DSLR camera. Bring your own to learn some options to help you get the best image and impact you want!

Getting to Know Arduino: Join our knowledge specialist for an overview to Arduino. In this session, there will be an introduction to microcontrollers, the IDE for Arduino and some basic work using an Arduino

Getting to Know Galileo: Galileo is the Intel microcontroller that can be programmed with python. In the session, join a knowledge specialist to get a hands-on introduction to working with the Galileo boards.

Introduction to Soldering - In this workshop, we will cover important safety awareness when using solder and soldering tools. Then join us in building a kit to teach the foundation for through-hole soldering techniques. After you have successfully assembled the kit, you will have a better knowledge of through-hole soldering and the tools, methods, and terminology required to populate your PCB prototype.

Getting to Know the Cricut: Have you wanted to see what you can do with the Cricut Explore Air? Come in to get an introduction or discuss a more complex project using Cricut Design Space.
