About

The University of North Texas Music Library’s Virtual Rare Book Room is composed primarily of digitized materials held in the Edna Mae Sandborn Music Rare Book Room.  The collection is particularly strong in eighteenth-century French opera, due in large part to the influence of musicologist Lloyd Hibberd on the development of the collection.  In addition to holdings from the UNT Music Library, the Virtual Rare Book Room also contains some items that have been borrowed from private collectors and scanned with permission.

Additional materials will be continually added to this virtual collection.  If you would like to request that a particular title from our Sandborn Room be prioritized for scanning, please send an e-mail to Head Music Librarian Morris Martin.  We will try to accommodate all such requests, provided that the materials are in the public domain and that their condition does not prohibit  handling.

A number of individuals have contributed to the Virtual Rare Book Room, including:

Cynthia Beard, Graduate Library Assistant

Jackson Ross Best, Jr.

Christianna English, Graduate Library Assistant

Under the guidance of Andrew Justice, Music Recordings and Digital Resources Librarian and web liaison, and in conjunction with Digital Projects, the Virtual Rare Book Room was transferred to the new UNT Library Web System using Plone Content Management in the summer of 2007. The Virtual Rare Book Room Susannah Cleveland, former Music Recordings and Digital Resources Librarian, developed and oversaw the project from its inception in August 2001 through June 2006.  Additional plot summaries have been provided by Natalia Wodnicka.  Special thanks are also due to Music Library staff members Renata van der Vyver for proofreading and link checking.  Extensive assistance has also been provided by the staff members of UNT's Rare Book Room and Digital Projects Unit.
