Creating the Link Type

The Link Type is used when you want to direct users to a webpage outside of the CMS in a direct way, rather than including it in a page with other information.

Title

Every object in the system has a Title. This is what is displayed at the top of the object when viewed, what is displayed in search results and the name of the object and, when the object is first created, this is what determines its URL.

Recommendations for creating a good title for an object:

  • When FIRST created, Titles should be reasonably short (remember, this is the permanent URL) but still make sense; if a user was to look at the URL for an object, it should be clear what that object is. URLs are indexed in search engines, so the use of real words, rather than abbreviations, will only improve your search results.

  • Titles can be edited after the object is created to more accurately reflect what is contained. This will NOT affect the URL.

  • Remember that the title is displayed in search results, so make it clear what the object is.

Description

The description is the few sentences that are displayed, along with the title, in search results and in list displays. It is important to make sure this section explains WHAT content is found in the object. This is NOT the place to put that information. Descriptions are Plain Text, which means that any line or paragraph breaks will be stripped out and that there is no rich text formatting available (bold, italic, links, etc). Finally, Descriptions will be truncated to 360 characters in search displays automatically by the system. This is roughly three good sentences and should be sufficient to get the information across.

URL

The URL is the full URL of the object; this can be typed in or copied and pasted directly from a browser address bar. Please be sure to use good quality URLs.
