Searching the Microforms Collection
Items are being added to the libraries' online catalog on a regular basis, but many of the 3,000,000 + items held in the microforms collections are still not listed in the online catalog. To help researchers locate materials held in the microforms collections, two major finding aids are available to supplement the online catalog:
Goldmine
The Goldmine Project is a web-based finding aid to the holdings of the Microforms Department. It is is arranged by broad subject areas, and includes many of the larger sets and groups of items. It is not a complete index to the microforms collections, but includes many rare and out-of-print materials held as microforms.
Card Catalog
In addition to the Goldmine finding aid, the Microforms Department has a physical card catalog that provides author and title access to many thousands of microforms held in the collections. In many cases, this may be the only access to individual items within larger collections - for example, the single microfilm set "American Periodical Series" contains over 900 individual periodicals. Some titles are in the catalog, but in other cases to find a specific title, researchers must consult the physical card catalog in the Microforms Department.
