Theodore Roosevelt
Papers of Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), the 26th U. S. President. He was elected to one term of office; he finished out the first term after William McKinley was assassinated. Some of the major events taking place during his term of office, 1901-1909, were the acquisition of the Panama Canal Rights (1904), the Pure Food and Drug Act (1906) and the San Francisco Earthquake (1906). He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906.
