Francis W. Pickens  (1805-1869). American lawyer and politician; Governor of South Carolina when the state seceded from the United States during the Civil War; Minister to Russia under President James Buchanan.

Abstract:

Papers of Francis Wilkinson Pickens (1805-1869) and Milledge Luke Bonham (1813-1890).  Three volumes of correspondence, reports, resolutions, military papers, applications for office petitions, administrative papers, memoranda, and newspaper clippings relating to Pickens and Bonham, Governors of South Carolina.  The bulk of the collection dates from 1860 to 1864 and relates mainly to the governorship (1860-62) of Pickens, the governorship (1862-65) of Bonham, and the Civil War.
