Abstract: The Chinese Repository is contained in twenty
volumes dating from 1832 to 1851. It is a descriptive account of India and
China and makes a comparison between these countries in the ninth and
nineteenth centuries. The subjects included are: geography, Chinese
history, natural history, travels, language and literature, trade and
commerce, shipping, England, Hong Kong, relations with America, Japan and
Korea, Siam and Cochin China (southern Vietnam), other Asiatic nations,
Indian archipelago, paganism , missions, medical missions, revision of the
Bible, education societies, and religion.
