The Library Annex is located just west of the main UNT campus off of Airport Road. The Annex houses the Collection Management Division as well as library materials that are in remote storage. Remote storage materials are in a closed-stack arrangement, but you may make requests for photocopies from periodicals or retrieval of specific titles by using the Library Materials Delivery Service. If you need to access a large number of volumes or a long run of periodicals at once, you may want to make use of the Annex's Reading Room.

About Preservation

Binding

We send 600 items to the commercial bindery during each 3-week cycle. These are primarily periodicals, and music scores, although monographs are also sent to the bindery on occasion. The Binding Unit can bind materials for other departments on campus.

In-house binding is performed by staff in the Access and Preservation Unit and includes velo-binding, pamphlet binding, hand-sewn binding, and recasing.

Conserve O Grams

A publication of the National Park Service - are a series of 178 leaflets containing information on the identification, care, and handling of library and museum collections as well as tips for disaster preparedness and response, fire safety collections storage, and suggestions for further reading.

Binding & Repair

Our Preservation Unit can bind materials for other UNT departments if they are for university use. Personal items cannot be sent to our commercial binder, however, as time and workflow allow, we offer an in-house binding and repair service to the community.

Special Projects

Archives: On-going projects include treating and rehousing nearly 100 years of campus newspapers, deacidifying and encapsulating archival materials, and rehousing collections.  The Preservation Unit was awarded a 2004 NEH Preservation Assistance Grant ($5000) to have the Judge Sarah T. Hughes scrapbooks evaluated by a conservator.  Begun in the summer of 2006, the scrapbooks were rehoused and page-level finding aids were created.
