Old English (or Anglo-Saxon) was the language spoken by the inhabitants of England between the 5th and the 12th century.  Important Old English texts include epic poetry, sermons, saint's lives, translations of the Bible, medical treatises, histories, and legal documents. Many of the volumes are 1st editions printed by Christophe Ballard, who held the privelège for music printing under King Louis XIV. Several are 2nd editions, printed by Henri de Baussen or Jean-Baptiste Christophe Ballard.
