In October 1997, a focus group made up of participating members for this project, had a technical review meeting at which a prototype product,"GeoMETRIC Design In Metric" was chosen as the launch vehicle for this project. GeoMETRIC Design In Metric was chosen because one of the study participating state agencies, MNDOT, has been in the process of developing a video training system on the subject. MNDOT has expended over a $1,000,000 in state funds for this work. The technical committee also decided at the October meeting to proceed using project funds to complete the remaining planned CBT project lessons and to explore other potential topics. One topic of great interest is what role can this project's work could play in facilitating the TRIS updating process. This potential use will be explored at great length during upcoming TRB meetings. The focus group is now in the process of establishing a collaborative web page about the CBT project and expect to rename the project to "Web Based Learning" as all training products will be able to be utilized via CD-ROM and the Internet/Intranet. Besides the FHWA, this SP&R pooled-fund study has participating members from the following States: CA, CT, FL, IA, MN, NE, OK, OR, PA, and TN.
