Copyright & Reproduction Policies

1. Reproduction Permissions

Regarding all government documents digital collections:

1.1   The UNT Libraries cannot grant or deny permission to reproduce these images, as we are not the copyright holders for the original documents.

1.2   Many, but not all, government documents are in the public domain.  You may check the original and/or digital versions to check for a copyright symbol and author name(s).

1.3   If you use a digital image from one of our collections, we request that you credit us as a source by including our institution name and the object’s URL.  Please do this regardless of whether you publish the image in print or online.

2. Archival-Quality Images

Regarding all government documents digital collections:

2.1   Many of these documents are already available for download in a variety of sizes. For instructions on how to download them, please see this tutorial: http://digital.library.unt.edu/help/guide/saving/ 

2.2   We cannot provide CDs or DVDs on which to copy these images.

2.3   We may provide copies of larger or archival-quality images:

• at the discretion of the Government Documents Department.
• if the patron brings their own recordable media (CD, DVD, USB-drive).
• only if advance notice is given. We do not have instant access to the majority of the images contained in the UNT Digital Collections.

 

3. Appraisal of Original Posters/Documents

Regarding all government documents digital collections:

3.1   The UNT Libraries do not provide appraisal services. However, many books describe estimated prices for posters and documents. Below are some titles you may wish to consult:

• Fusco, Tony. The Official Identification and Price Guide to Posters. New York: House of Collectibles, 1990.
• Martinus, Norman and Harry Rinker. Warman's Paper. Radnor, Pa. : Wallace-Homestead Book Co., 1994.
• Theofiles, George. American Posters of World War I: A Price Collectors Guide. New York : Dafran House, 1973
• Theran, Susan. Prints, posters and Photographs: Identification and Price Guide.New York : Avon Books, 1993.
• Theran, Susan and Kathryn Acebo (eds.). Leonard's Annual Price Guide of Prints, Posters and Photographs.

 

 3.2   If you have a document, poster, or collection for which you would like to determine the value, you should contact a specialist dealer (see policies section 4 for some dealer names). Remember that the dealer may have to spend some time researching the material to determine its value, and this service may require a fee.

 

4. Purchase of Original Posters/Documents or of Print Copies

Regarding all government documents digital collections:

4.1   We cannot print copies of these images for the general public.
