On Thursday, March 26, 2015, the Friends of the UNT Libraries will host their annual meeting and dinner.  The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Forum on the first floor of UNT’s Willis Library, 1506 W. Highland Street.  Following a buffet dinner, author Deborah Crombie (To Dwell in Darkness) will speak, and a book signing will immediately follow.

Crombie, a Dallas-area native and current resident of McKinney, Texas, has had a lifelong passion for the United Kingdom, and her frequent visits across the pond eventually inspired her first Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James novel, A Share in Death (Scribner, 1997).  Since then, Crombie has written fifteen more novels in the British crime series.  Her most recent, To Dwell in Darkness, was published in September, 2014, by William Morrow.

Tickets to this event are $40 per person when purchased in advance, and $50 at the door. To make reservations, contact Mandy Rausch at 940-565-2499 or Mandy.Rausch@unt.edu. Reservations may be made until 5:00 p.m. March 23 (Monday). All proceeds will benefit the Friends of the UNT Libraries, which was established in 1981 to improve and increase the physical resources of the libraries’ Special Collections, formerly the Rare Books and Archives collections.

The Friends regularly contribute funds for the purchase of materials for the collections and sponsor receptions, poetry and short story readings, workshops and other events to help make the collections a recognized part of the cultural benefits of the Denton area. The Voertman Lecture was established by and named for a life member of the Friends.

In September 2013, the UNT Libraries acquired the Deborah Crombie Papers. This collection is composed of manuscripts of the author’s novels, which include handwritten notes and corrections, and personal papers. The personal papers series includes reviews, research for novels in progress, and correspondence.
