Metadata-Elements

This section provides a quick and practical guide to creating descriptive metadata records.

Descriptive-Metadata

-As summarized in the field reference guide, some elements are optional, but data enterer are strongly encouraged to populate as much of each record as possible. Most elements are self explanatory, but a brief definition of each of the fields is provided under the record box. Detail information about any of the elements can also be accessed from within the template itself by simply clicking on the element names.

-Some elements are repeatable, and they have a plus-sign icon beside them. The following pages of this tutorial describe some of the descriptive metadata elements. More examples and thorough documentation of all metadata related activities can be found at the Metadata Initiative page. We encourage you to read as much of the official metadata documentation as possible.
