Using Web 2.0 in the Libraries: A Discussion

Tech Talks Discussion Facilitated by Kristin Boyett, August 29, 2007

Summary

In summer 2007, a number of UNT Libraries employees participated in training sessions to refine their skills in using blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, social networking, social tagging, and more.  This Tech Talk served as an open forum for discussion of these technologies and how they might be used by the Libraries.  Podcasting and videocasting were popular suggestions.  We also discussed increasing visibility of library resources and products by placing links in Wikipedia and making friends on social networks such as myspace.com and flickrTM.   We considered user tagging in library catalogs and instant messaging as well.

About the Facilitator:  Librarian Kristin Boyett is the project manager for the UNT Libraries' Multi-Media Development Lab.
