Digital Music 101--Essentials

The shift from analog sound recording techniques (magnetic tape, lacquer/shellac/vinyl discs) to digital media (compact discs, DATs, digital files) has been an incendiary component of the digital information revolution—consider where we would be without iTunes, Napster, RIAA lawsuits, MP3 files, and so forth.  Although many people use MP3 players on a daily basis, the basic knowledge of how these technologies work and what is possible with them often offers new possibilities to the user, so they can interact with their digital music collections on a more meaningful level.

This presentation discusses the development of digital music technologies and introduces the basic platforms on which the user can become more familiar with digital music.
