1. What do I need to check out library materials?
Library materials may be checked out at any of the circulation desks by presenting a current, approved ID card. For UNT students, faculty and staff, your UNT ID is your library card.
2. I am not from UNT. Can I borrow books?
You must have a library card to borrow books. Check out Information for Others to learn how to get an approved library card.
3. Where are the circulation desks located?
The circulation desks that are part of the Circulation Department are located on the first floor of each building. There are also circulation desks in the Music Library and the Media Library.
4. How long can I check a book out?
Circulation periods are different depending on the user. Specifics can be found at Circulation Policies.
5. Is there a limit to how many books I can check out?
Generally, there is no limit to the number of regular circulation items that may be checked out. However, library users with a TexShare card issued by a public library are limited to checking out five items at a time.
6. How do I renew a book?
Books can be brought in person to a circulation desk or they can be renewed through the UNT Library Catalog. For specific instructions go to the Circulation page and chose which type of user you are. Renewal information will be addressed there.
7. How many times can I renew a book?
Generally, there is no limit to the number of times a book may be renewed as long as no one has placed a hold on the item, there are no library blocks on the borrower's library account, and the borrower's library registration is current. Public TexShare card borrower's are limited to one renewal.
8. How do I place a hold on a book?
Holds may be placed in person at any of our Circulation Desks.
9. If I need a book that is checked out to someone else, what can I do?
If the item is a regular circulating book, go to any of our circulation desks to request a recall or hold on the book.
10. If the Libraries do not have the book I want, how can I get it?
You may request the book through the Interlibrary Loan Department.
11. Can I see my library account online?
To access your library account online, go to UNT Library Catalog. Click on "View your Account/Renew Materials".

If another user needs a book that is checked out, they can place a hold or recall on the book. These items do not usually circulation but there are exceptions based on the user type and the type of the material. Look at Circulation Policies, Special Materials for specifics.
