ID Cards
Items may be checked out at any of the circulation desks by presenting a current UNT I.D. card. All I.D. cards are non-transferable. Bills, cancelled checks, or class schedules are not considered valid identification for checkout. The user is responsible for any material checked out on his/her I.D. card and for any fines incurred. Loss or theft of an I.D. card should be reported to the General Circulation Desk, 1st floor, Willis Library, and to the University I.D. Office immediately. The user is responsible for material checked out on the stolen I.D. if it has not been reported prior to the unauthorized use.
Loan Periods
Books in general circulation (not on reserve or another special checkout) are checked out for a semester.
There is usually no limit to the number of books that may be checked out in general circulation. Books checked out will have the due date stamped on a date due slip inside the book. All regular, circulating books may be renewed if there are no holds or recalls on them and as long as the user’s record is current and in good standing. Reserve items may not be renewed.
Renewals
Books are eligible for renewal if:
- Requestor record is current
- Requestor is not blocked
- Books are regular circulating books
- Books are not at recall or hold status
There are no telephone or e-mail renewals.
Regular circulating library materials may be renewed in the following ways:
- By bringing the books in person to a circulation desk. You must have your current, valid ID card with you to renew materials.
- Through the UNT Library Catalog. Click on the "View Your Account/Renew Materials" button and follow the instructions given. UNT faculty, staff and students will use their EUID and password.
Question regarding renewals should be referred to the General Circulation Desk at 940/565-2413 or circ@library.edu
Holds and Recalls
If a regular circulating item is checked out, you may request a hold/ recall on that item.
When a hold or recall is placed on an item, the user of the item will be asked to return the item at the end of a period three weeks from the initial checkout of that item. Items on hold or recall cannot be renewed. You will be notified when the item you recalled is available for checkout.
Items needed for faculty reserves may be recalled immediately.
Therefore, books that are initially checked out for 6 weeks or for the semester term will have a reduction of the checkout period to 3-weeks if someone else requests the books. Users who fail to respond to recall requests will be blocked from checking out additional library materials.
Missing Items
If you are unable to locate an item on the shelf, please inquire at the main Circulation Desk. If the item is missing, library personnel will attempt to locate it for you. You will be notified when the item is available.
Faculty Authorizations
As a general rule, library users may not check out books for another person; however, teaching faculty members may authorize other people to check out items in their name. Teaching fellows, teaching assistants, and members of the regular full-time university classified staff ARE NOT eligible to grant faculty authorization. There are no blanket authorizations. Each time a book or periodical is checked out, the faculty member must provide a written authorization for the specific item to be checked out. The Libraries provide an official faculty authorization form, but a memo, on departmental stationery, will be accepted. The memo or form must list the specific item or items that are to be authorized. These forms are kept on file until the items are returned. At the time of checkout, the authorized assistant must present his or her own picture identification and the written faculty authorization.
TexShare Cards
The purpose of TexShare is to support and enhance resource sharing among Texas academic and public libraries. TexShare was initially limited to state university libraries, but was expanded by the 75th Legislature to include public community colleges and independent colleges and universities. In August 2000 the public libraries in the state were included in the program. The TexShare library card program enables faculty, students, and staff of participating institutions to use the libraries of other participating institutions.
