We've rounded up some Web sites to help you start your business!

  • Some of the electronic resources are subscribed to by the UNT Libraries.
  • If you are a UNT student or faculty member, you can access these resources off campus by using your EUID and your UNT password.
  • If you are not a UNT student or faculty member, you can access these resources using a guest login on any computer inside the UNT Libraries.

Starting Your Business Plan

Murphy Center for Entrepreneurship
is located in the UNT College of Business, and promotes free enterprise through partnerships among students, faculty, and businesses that have established successful entrepreneurial enterprise programs.

Murphy Enterprise Center 

Business.gov The basic place to start for small business guidance and forms.  This resource has been moved to the SBA.gov site (see the next item).

Small Business Administration Planner (SBA.gov). The official resource to help businesses comply with government regulations. Includes compliance information, forms, and contacts from the U.S. government, as well as information on starting a business, obtaining a grant or loan, and buying surplus property.

Research Tools

Patents, Trademarks, Copyright (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide).  Covers applying for a patent; patent searching; registering a trademark; trademark searching.

Track down your NAICS Code
Find your North American Industry Classification System Code on Census.gov

Track down your SIC Code
Find your Standard Industrial Classification Code on OSHA.gov

Additional Tools

Associations (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide).
Look up statistics on your industry in a national or state association.

Business Plan Tools (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide). Commercial and government resources for business planning.

Chambers of Commerce (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide). Links to Web pages of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, U.S., international chambers of commerce, and other business organizations.

Funding and Financing (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide). Information about sources of venture capital.

Online journal search: do a journal title search in one or both: Online Catalog | Serials Solutions electronic journals. This will tell you what database has your journal.

Texas Small Business Resources (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide). Includes DFW, Texas, and demographic resources.

U.S. Small Business Resources (UNT Libraries' Subject Guide). Economic and marketing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, Federal Reserve.
