September 29, 2006

4:00 p.m..

The University Library Committee met in Willis Library, Room 229 at 4:00 p.m. with the following in attendance:  Benjamin Brand, Don Grose, Barbara Merino, Denis Paz, Susan Paz, Jack Peters, Rick Reidy and Celia Williamson.

Dr. Grose convened the meeting awaiting arrival of current chair Rick Reidy.  

The main agenda items were to elect new chair for 2006-2007 academic year and to set a time for the next meeting.

Nominations were taken from the floor for chair.  Jack Peters, English Department was nominated and elected unanimously.  

Dr. Grose reported that he will send e-mail soliciting each member’s schedule of preferred meeting times so as to find a time when a majority of faculty members representing Faculty Senate districts could be present.

Reidy indicated that he will see that a University Library Committee representative is at budget hearings.

New Business:  Reidy inquired as to whether there is a means of testing electronic resources when used remotely to eliminate extra steps in the search process. Grose will check with Cathy Hartman to see if there is software to accomplish this.

Peters had an online catalog question regarding whether or not when going back to look for another book during a search the book could be highlighted and to whom to address this.  Grose replied that the Libraries is currently searching for a new III Administrator, and that this would be a question that they could possibly address.  Peters then inquired whether there is a rule in place about an individual chairing more than one committee since he is chair of Academic Affairs Committee and it was the general consensus that there is no such rule.

The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
