Reserves
The UNT Libraries supports four kinds of reserve material: 1) Faculty Reserves, 2) Electronic Reserves 3) Graduate Reserves, and 4) Library Reserves. All four are accessed and controlled by Libraries online library system, reserve module.
Faculty Reserves
Faculty Reserves are those materials used by the faculty as supplementary teaching material.
Locations of Faculty Reserves
- Humanities, Social Sciences, and children's literature - Materials that support these courses are located in the General Reserve area, 1st floor, Willis Library
- Music - Materials that support courses in the College of Music are located in the Music Library, Willis Library
- Science and technology - Materials that support these courses are located in the Science and Technology Library
- Engineering, computer science, material science, engineering technology and library/information sciences - Library Collection Area, Discovery Park, room M130
- Media (motion pictures, slides, videos, etc.) reserve materials are located in the Media Library, Chilton Hall
Placing materials on Faculty Reserves
- Materials which can be placed on reserve:
- Required reading for courses currently taught
- Materials not available in quantity
- Personal copies, if required reading. The Libraries is not responsible for loss or damage to these materials.
- Photocopies
- Materials which cannot be placed on reserve except at the discretion of the librarian:
- Periodicals
- Non-circulating books
- Reference materials
- Photocopies
- The Libraries' complies with the Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code) and ALA's Model Policy for Classroom, Research and Library Reserve Use
- Materials must be received/requested at least one week prior to class use otherwise the Libraries cannot guarantee availability by the date needed.
- Reserve materials will be removed at the end of the semester unless renewed by the faculty member.

Electronic Reserves
Instructors have the option of placing articles or chapters from books on reserve in electronic format instead of paper format. If materials are on electronic reserve, they cannot also be placed on reserve in paper format. If the material is copyrighted, the professor must provide a password that students will use in accessing the document.
Graduate Reserves
- Graduate Reserves is the term given to the carrels available for assignment to UNT graduate students and faculty. Students working on theses, dissertations, or projects of similar magnitude will receive first consideration for assignment of carrels.
- Graduate Reserves for Lower Level through 3rd Floor in the Willis Library will be assigned by the General Circulation Desk, 1st Floor. The Music Library will assign those carrels located on the 4th floor. Carrels will be assigned only if seating availability permits it.
- Circulating books and documents may be charged to Graduate Reserves. Periodicals, non-circulating books, non-book material and reserve books may not be charged to Graduate Reserves.
- Requests for Faculty/Library Reserves take precedence over charges to Graduate Reserves.
- Only the individual who placed the material on Graduate Reserves may remove books from the carrel for regular check-out. Materials may be checked out from Graduate Reserves for 3 days. Reserve loan rules will apply to this category of loan.
Library Reserves
- Materials on Library Reserves will be held in General Reserves, Science and Technology Library Reserve Desk, Music Library, Government Documents Service Desk, Library Collection Area in the DIscovery Park room M130 and the Media Library.
- The selection of Library Reserve materials will be the responsibility of the head of the individual collection.
- Reserve loan rules will apply to any checkouts from Library Reserves.
